Observer
NameEllen R
Experience Level3/5
RemarksAt the time of the observation, I was flying a commercial airliner from Portland, Oregon to Medford, Oregon at FL220 (22,000 feet). I was looking east and saw a red glowing dot, which began to grow a reddish "tail" as the object moved from south to north. The object traveled relatively slowly for a meteor, so I thought it might be some kind of space junk burning up in the atmosphere. Total duration was 45 seconds to one minute. The color was predominately red, but I observed a white glow that lasted 3-4 seconds as the object passed out of view behind the wing of the airplane.
