RemarksThe trail appeared to be a short, well-defined contrail, running from east to west and white in color; two-thirds of it was a straight line, and then it took a very slight jog to the north before straightening again; it dissipated within three to four minutes; it appeared south-southwest of my location at an elevation of about 80 degrees.
Terminal flash
ObservationYes
RemarksI was on my front porch at the time. The porch is covered and faces east, so I did not see the object itself. I saw a bright flash similar to lightening; it pulsed several times, lit objects on the ground, which cast shadows that rotated with the pulses. The flashes were so bright, I was expecting to hear a loud, and nearly immediate, clap of thunder, but there was no sound. The sky to the east and overhead was relatively clear, so after about 10 seconds, I stepped off the porch to scan the sky that was not visible from the porch. That's when I saw the contrail-like object.
Fragmentation
