Remarks | I only wish I was underneath it. Seen very low above the WSW horizon, below Venus, it had two or three distinct brightenings. Knowing altitude/distance of commercial aircraft, estimate this meteor was very bright over OK/TX/NM. Here, in Illinois, it was as only as bright as Saturn during its brightest flashes, with Venus and Jupiter nearby. Excellent! Only saw it because I was looking at Venus/Saturn/Jupiter, and at the moment, Venus, when it appeared. Had I been looking 30 degrees or more away, I wouldn't have noticed, it was so low and so dimmed by distance. |
